Join Young Pros at “Mingle with the Media” on June 12
Google “reporters hate PR.” Go ahead, we’ll wait. The results are scary, right? It’s a long-standing misconception that journalists and public relations practitioners are the Tom and Jerry of the media world. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. And, PRSA Young Professionals wants to help. At “Mingle with the Media” PR pros and media gurus will get a chance to chat, and four well-respected Denver media professionals will take the time to share their side. We’ll learn their pitching pet peeves, their advice to young pros and what they really think about PR. Plus, there will be free sushi and discounted drinks!
“Mingle with the Media” will be on Tuesday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m. at Sushi Hai in the Haibar downstairs area. (That’s at 3600 W. 32nd Avenue, Denver, CO 80211. Helpful hint: Some street parking is for the neighborhood only. Watch out for residential parking only street signs to avoid getting a ticket.)
Here’s who you’ll be mingling with:
Suzane Brown has been with the Denver Post since 2000. In addition to assigning and editing stores, she writes about lifestyles, fashion and beauty. Suzanne enjoys working out, gardening and golfing, as well as activities of her book club, Stranger than Fiction.
Emily Makinzie is the morning show producer and host from Mix 100. Emily was born in New York, and likes to blame her snarkiness on the East Coaster from within. Emily is a multi-college graduate with a keen sense of adventure, traveling everywhere from Europe to California, to the lights of the Las Vegas Strip. After years of excursion, Emily is back in Colorado doing what she knew she was always meant to do, entertain!
Erica McClaugherty is the segment producer for Fox 31/CW2. Erica graduated with honors from California State University Long Beach with a bachelor’s in broadcast journalism and a minor in communications. She was a reporter and anchor for “Beach News” in Long Beach, California and then went on to intern in Hollywood at KTLA as an entertainment.
Rema Rahman is an Associated Press reporter based in Denver who writes both breaking news briefs and longer feature stories with both state and national interest. A graduate of Seton Hall University for her undergrad, and Northwestern University for her Master’s, Rema went on to work in publishing, freelance writing and at BBC.com before making the move to the mile-high city.
