The first book club meeting of 2012 focused on Sally Hogshead’s “Fascinate: Your 7 Triggers to Persuasion and Captivation.” Triggers range from being seen with the newest designer bag (prestige) to needing to be the focus in the room (power).

The group of nine attendees at the Cellar Wine Bar was a good mix of the triggers. Whitney Aring explained that she agreed with the quiz results and her trigger label “mystique,” saying “I like to hold some things close to the vest and not give it all away at once.” Angela Potrykus questioned her “alarm” trigger, until she described her penchant for saving up her media placements and then sending them out all at once to her PR clients – a savvy skill of an alarmist. When Susan Bonee explained her desire for “everyone to get along,” the group was easily able to guess her trigger: trust.

The conversation was supplemented with the $5 glasses of wine at Cellar’s happy hour, the deal that makes them a sure choice for the next book club on May 14 at 6 p.m. Kelly Cutrone’s “Normal Gets you Nowhere” will be the topic of discussion.
