McDonald’s Tweeter Jessie Thompson Gave Us “Something to Tweet About”

Jessica “Jessie” Thompson, official “tweeter” for the new McDonald’s @McCafeYourDay account, spoke about the company’s McCafe Twitter campaign to a packed ballroom at PRSA Colorado’s September luncheon. McDonald’s launched the McCafé line of espresso and coffee products in May, which Jessie said was the second largest product launch since the restaurant’s breakfast line in the 1970s.

In order to cultivate current relationships with McDonald’s consumers and build relationships with new customers, the company started a Twitter account, @McCafeYourDay. Jessie said the goal was to turn customers into brand ambassadors and use the Twitter account to share knowledge about the products, gather comments and feedback, and provide entertainment.

“Twitter is just one piece of our digital strategy,” said Jessie. Their digital strategy includes four pillars:

1.            Go where people are and foster relationships in their space (not the old “if you build it, they will come” mentality)

2.            Be multidimensional, interesting, and relevant

3.            Continue relationships, be engaging

4.            Be transparent
